Conservation Policy AIMS: The Targets that We Wish to
Achieve
- To conserve the variety and quality of native flora species in their natural habitat
- To protect and conserve remaining areas of original vegetation (terrestrial, aquatic or
marine)
- To reduce the threat to native flora from introduced flora and fauna, and the spread of
diseases
- To restore or recover lost biodiversity
- To educate our own members and the wider community on the value of native flora
resources and gain community co-operation to preserve them
POLICY:
Our Commitment to Take Action
- We will support flora-related conservation projects with research, funding, advice,
voluntary labour or other appropriate means.
- We will give a high priority to the protection of rare or endangered species o habitats.
- We will help those who seek assistance to maintain, restore or re-create areas of native
vegetation.
- Wherever possible, we will revegetate bushland sites using the original species for the
area, with seeds and other propagation material collected either on the site or from the
nearest local natural source.
- We will avoid spreading weed and disease agents by taking appropriate precautions when
visiting natural areas, and when passing through or leaving areas with known problems.
- We will endeavour to consider and balance all the relevant points of view when deciding
our actions or position on any particular project or issue of the Society or the wider
community.
- We will seek outside assistance for solutions to problems we face, and share with other
interested parties any methods or techniques that we discover.
- We will ensure that the long-term net impact of the Society's activity is ecologically
beneficial. In the short term, any adverse effects on the environment of our actions
should be minimal and they should be outweighed by long-term benefits.
