Eremophila glabra is a
variable shrub with forms varying from 60cm tall to twice that in height and 1 - 3m in
width. The shrub is quick growing and should be pruned.
The leaves are an attractive silver-green. Despite it's name, glabra which means smooth
without hairs, there are some attractive hairy leaved forms.
Flowers, up to 3 cm long, are orange, yellow, green or red and appear for most of the
year. Honeyeaters find the flowers a useful food source.
This plant is frost hardy and considered hardy in general. It will tolerate dappled
shade but prefers a sunny well drained position on loam, clay or sand. It is drought and
moderately frost tolerant and survives on a wide range of pH.
Eremophila glabra is suitable for rockeries and small gardens in inland and
coastal positions, as well as the Adelaide Hills and Plains. |
