General Meetings

The General meetings of the society are held on the fourth Thursday of each month except December at the Unley Citizens Centre at 18 Arthur Street, Unley (next to the Ambulance station). The meetings start at 7.45 pm.  Visitors are welcome.    Library Services, Book Sales and sale of Propagation aids are usually available at General meetings.

These meetings are held at the society's clubrooms at 21A Richards Tce, Goodwood.  If you are interested in attending any of these meetings please contact The Australian Plants Society by email. 

Conservation

Conservation work (COOTS) is carried out at  Port Parham, Hope Valley, Lands End and Pine Point. Pine Point is on Yorke Peninsula, about 160km from Adelaide and about 18km from Ardrossan.  The project site is in the Muloowurtie Conservation Reserve, and not on the coast where the settlement of Pine Point itself is.  Port Parham is north of Adelaide, about 50km from Gepps Cross.  Lands End is at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, near Cape Jervis.  Instructions on how to find each site, and arrangements for camping or other accommodation are available from Jeff Reid, phone (08) 8263 0340 or 0418 892 075, e-mail jreid@picknowl.com.au.    If you're interested in helping in these activities please contact The Australian Plants Society SA by email or Jeff Reid on the contacts given. April 2010

Sunday, 18th   Annual COOTS Barbecoot at the Stockade Botanical Park.  Contact Jeff Reid for details.

Thursday,  22nd General Meeting at Unley. Speaker,  Dean Nicolle ."Eucalypts - The weird and the wonderful"  Bring in samples (photo, buds, fruits, leaves, bark) of your unknown local eucalypt species for identification.

Friday 30th.  Set-up day for the Autumn Plant Sale at Stirling Angas Hall, Adelaide Showgrounds.  12 noon to 6.30 p.m. Helpers welcome.  Barbecue dinner provided.

May 2010

Saturday, 1st and Sunday 2nd.  Autumn Plant Sale at Stirling Angas Hall, Adelaide Showgrounds. 10am to 5 pm Saturday, 10am to 4pm Sunday.  A chance to purchase a wide range of Australian native plants, including some rare and unusual.

Friday, 8th. Set up day for Spring Flower Show and Plant Sale at Stirling Angas Hall,  Adelaide Showgrounds. Helpers welcome from 12 noon to 6.30 pm.  Barbecue dinner provided.

Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th Spring Flower Show and  Plant Sale at the Adelaide Show Grounds in the Stirling Angus Hall. 10.00am to 5.00pm on the Saturday, 10.00am to 4.00pm on the Sunday. Thousands of quality Australian native plants for sale and display of named flowers.

Thursday, 28th.  General Meeting at Unley. Speaker Professor Bob Hill "Come and learn the fascinating pre-history of our beloved Australian Plants".

November 2010

Sunday, 7th.  Annual Seed Sowing Day.  Seed sowing for the COOTS projects.  Held at the clubrooms, 21a Richards Tce. Goodwood  from 9.00am, followed by a sausage sizzle.

Thursday, 25th.  General Meeting at Unley.  Quiz and Social night. Please bring a plate of supper to share and a simple present of a few dollars value so that everyone may receive a gift.

October 2011

South Australia will be hosting the national Australian Native Plants Society (Australia) conference and seminar in 2011.  The conference will be held on Saturday 1st October and the seminar from 3rd to 7th October at Westminster College, Marion. Accommodation will be available at the college and at local caravan parks and hotels. Pre and post-conference tours will visit Kangaroo Island, Flinders Ranges and South-east and Coorong.
